About this Artwork
I am deeply thankful that I memorialized this impression from the Old Mule Trail in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in Northern California where I did extensive hiking throughout the winter and spring of 2018. The former gold-mining region of Northern California that surrounds Whiskeytown Lake is laced with trails through rugged dense woods. In this painting, the live oaks, rendered with thick brushstrokes and lit by the morning sun, look like they had a nip of whiskey themselves. I love the magical arbor they form over the trail as their roots hold tight to the steep terrain. In August 2018, the destructive Carr Fire burned this whole area. This energetic painting stands as a tribute to the memory of this beautiful area. Prints are available in a variety of sizes.
