Jimson Weed

The sandy soils along the Sacramento River are home to abundant jimson weed. The white/purple glow of the flowers, their radical shape shifting from bud to droop, the jagged leaves, and the mystery of their psychedelic properties, I see how Georgia O’Keefe fell hard for this flower. While my rendition is not painted in O’Keefe’s modernist style, I thought of her with each post-impressionist brushstroke.
