Massive oak trees 400 years old arch over a trail, the light filtering through like stained glass. Is it any wonder we built our most famous cathedrals to match such places? This painting is a memorial to Shiloh Park in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains of Sonoma County where I hiked often and took many reference photos prior to its succumbing to wildfire in 2017. At that time, I did not feel I had the skills to paint this cathedral, but now, using passionate brushwork and a palate of sunlight and verdure, I strived to do justice to this magical and hallowed ground.
