Sunsets in Santa Barbara County glow, literally, and some nights the Los Padres Mountains appear to be part of the atmosphere itself, turning a luminous bubbly pink. In this petite painting, the rolling hills are covered with wild mustard, the oaks are starting to bud, and the iconic Figueroa Mountain glows like champagne. I used loose expressive brushwork to convey the exquisite fecundity of the Santa Ynez wine country.
