Some parts of California play heavily in my mythology and Mt. Diablo is one of them. In this painting, I got to know oak trees for the first time through the language of brush and paint and with each round at the easel, my grasp and interpretation of these remarkable trees had evolved and was different. The differences account, I feel, for the great dynamics across the canvas. The trees are alive in the springtime light, each with their own personality and movement in evolution.
